A rare anomaly: absence of slips of extensor digitorum tendon for little finger and presence of bifurcation of extensor digiti minimi tendon for little finger

چکیده
The extensor digitorum muscle (EDM) originates from the lateral epicondyle of the humerus via the common extensor tendon, the adjacent intermuscular septa and the antebrachial fascia. It divides distally into four tendons which pass in a common synovial sheath with the tendon of extensor indicis, through a tunnel under the extensor retinaculum and diverge on the dorsum of the hand, one to each finger. The tendon to the index finger is accompanied by the extensor indicis which lies medial (ulnar) to it. The tendon of the extensor digiti minimi attach to little finger with a slip of extensor digitorum tendon. During routine dissection , it has been found that there is presence of three digitorum tendon for index, middle and ring finger, but not for little finger. Also observed that extensor digiti minimi tendon bifurcates and attaches to little finger. Key word: tendon, extensor digitorum, hand, surgery.

Simultaneous Dorsal Base Fracture and FDP Avulsion of Distal Phalanx of the Little Finger
Avulsion injury of the flexor digitorum profundus (FDP) with concomitant fracture of the distal phalanx dorsal base is uncommon. Simultaneous avulsion fractures of the insertion of this tendon associated with rupture of the tendon from the bony fragment and combination with dorsal base fracture is very rare and also complicated. A 36- year- old man fell and injured his right little finger. FDP ...

During the educational dissection of a 69-year-old Chinese male cadaver, an extensor digiti minimi (EDM) with five slips on the right hand was discovered. Except for the two slips of the little finger, the two radial slips were inserted into the dorsal aponeurosis of the middle finger and the ring finger, respectively. The middle slip was connected to the junctura tendinum in the fourth interme...
متن کاملAn Anatomical Variation of Extensor Indicis Muscle: A Case Report
The extensor indicis is a narrow, elongated skeletal muscle in the deep layer of the dorsal forearm that originates from the one third of the distal posterior surface of the shaft of ulna below the origin of the extensor pollicis longos and interosseous membrane. It runs through the fourth tendon compartment with the extensor digitorum under the extensor retinaculum. The extensor indicis joins ...
متن کاملVariant Superficial Branch of Radial Artery along with Supplementary Tendons on the Dorsum of the Hand and Their Surgical Implications
Variations of radial artery, in both its course and branching pattern in the anatomical snuffbox, are clinically significant for the plastic surgeons, cardiologists, and radiologists. Reports on its abnormal high origin and subsequent superficial course have been well documented. Herein, we report an unusual superficial branch of the radial artery given off before its entry into the palm by pas...

This study was performed to investigate the anatomy and variations of the human extensor tendons of the fingers and their intertendinous connections. Ninetyfive upper limbs of adult cadavers were dissected. The variations in the extensor tendons of the fingers, both proximal and distal to the extensor retinaculum, and their mode of insertion were observed. Also, the intertendinous connections w...
